In 2009, Singapore was ranked an unimpressive 49th out of 140 countries in the happiness index. A survey done by a consulting group, Grey Group, found that 90% of the Singaporeans surveyed acknowledged that they are stressed. One of the main reasons cited by experts was that Singaporeans are too obsessed with achieving success that they do play enough and laugh enough. As life coaches who have worked with hundreds of clients who live in Singapore, we cannot help but agree.
Our inspiration
When we first heard about the statistics in late 2010, a group of life coaches started to think about how we can help Singaporeans become happier. It was then we came across movie called “The Bucket List”. In the movie, two elderly men met each other in a hospital and decided to spend the last months of their lives clearing their bucket list. They travelled to places they always wanted to go, did the things they always wanted to do and rebuild relationships that were lost a long time ago. Immediately, the idea struck us!
Why the Bucket List Campaign?
The bucket list campaign was created to encourage Singaporeans to live the Singaporean dream and do the things that they are passionate about. It is also about creating a balanced lifestyle where you can balance work with pursuing your interests. We aim to use the campaign to increase the happiness of Singaporeans through supporting them in clearing their bucket lists, list of things they want to do before they kick the bucket.
Who are we?
We are a group of life coaches from Executive Coach International, one of the largest coaching organizations in the region. One of the most common problems faced by our clients is dealing and handling the stress in their lives. As life coaches, we help our client learn how to manage their stress, while learning how to live their life with more fulfillment and meaning. We decided to create this campaign as an initiative to help Singaporeans become happier people!
